Norway

After returning to the Netherlands and sailing during April and May on Tenaya we joined a sailing expedition to Norway aboard the Mahina Tiare III - a Hallberg-Rassy 46 for a 21 day 1300 mile cruise along the west coast of Norway.

We left Ellos, Sweden (the home of Hallberg-Rassy yachts) on May 18 and headed west, but the wind was 30+ knots and forecasted to increase so we returned to Gulholmen. On the 19th we tried again but the winds continued 30-35 knots on our bow, so we turned north to Risor (86 mile day).

On Sunday the 20th the winds dropped and we motor sailed around the tip of Norway is easy conditions, arriving in Bergen on Tuesday the 22nd. (290 miles). From Bergen we sailed 38 miles to Fedje, then 63 miles to Floro and then 90 miles to the beautiful town of Alesund. From Saturday, May 26 until Monday the 28th we sailed 350 miles to Lovand, home of a large colony of Puffins.

From Lovund we made a series short hops about 50 miles a day) exploring Hollandsfjorden, Bodo, Vettoya, Henningsvar, Svolvaer, Trollfjorden, Neshamn, Harstad, Hestoy and finally arriving in Tromso on June 7.
